Camera Not Working in the Mobile App

Last updated

Photos are the heart of a Sitefotos submission, so a camera that will not open stops the whole visit. The fixes below are ordered from most to least common.

Check the App’s Permissions

The app asks for camera and location access the first time you use it. If either was denied, the camera cannot open. Open your phone’s settings, find the Sitefotos app, and make sure camera access is allowed, then reopen the app.

The iOS permission prompt asking to allow Sitefotos to access the camera
iOS asks once. If this was denied, the camera stays dark until you re-enable it in Settings.

“Camera unavailable” on iPhone or iPad

On Apple devices this message usually means another app is holding the camera, and it can persist even when that app looks closed.

  1. Close other apps that use the camera, including any running in Split View or picture-in-picture on iPad.

  2. Open the app switcher and swipe away recently used apps, then reopen Sitefotos.

  3. If the message stays, restart the device. This releases the camera reliably.

Take Photos Through the App

Use the camera the form opens, or the app’s Camera tab, rather than the phone’s own camera app. Photos taken through Sitefotos attach themselves to the right site and the right spot on the form and upload automatically.

For Administrators

Taking pictures from using the app's Camera tab allows the user to create new sites to your account if the site does not exist or the user is out of the geofenced area. You can enable or disable this option in every employee's record in your backoffice according to your needs.
